Robin Thicke explains Paula Patton split: "Cheating is not why we're apart"
While he can't stop singing about Paula Patton, Robin Thicke admits he hasn't seen her in four months.
"I try to keep most of that private, but, I haven't seen her for four months," he said on New York's Hot 97 radio station on Tuesday.
His need to keep things "private" was not the impression those tweeting into the #AskThicke Twitter Q&A were given. Designed to promote his new album "Paula," the online chat took a negative turn when the singer was bombarded and trolled with questions about his part in the breakup.
The "Blurred Lines" singer touched on what went wrong in the couple's 20-year relationship when on Hot 97, but was quick to shoot down rumors that infidelity was the cause of their split. "[Cheating] is not why we're apart. We're apart because we just couldn't be together anymore for a while. There's a hundred different reasons, there isn't just one. There's a long list...I changed, and I got a little too selfish, a little too greedy and little too full of myself."
As for Patton's response to the album, Thicke admitted that she hasn't even heard it yet. "She's only heard a few songs. I don't think she wants to hear it right now. I can't speak for her, but I think space is an important part of any healing process."
He said of the new music, "The album is exactly what happens when you lose the love of your life and you're trying to figure it out in your head. How am I going to move on and get through it all? We just weren't happy together anymore and I still had so much I wanted to apologize for, and things I wanted to take responsibility for, so that's pretty much what the album's about."
Seeming optimistic about the healing process, the 37-year-old "Get Her Back" singer continued, "If you've been together that long, you kinda became adults together instead of being adults and then meeting. But maybe a year or two off, we'll become our own people without each other and then it will be meant to be."
