Robert Downey Jr.'s son arrested on drug charges
WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - Los Angeles authorities say the 20-year-old son of actor Robert Downey, Jr. is out on bail after being arrested with what deputies believe was cocaine.
Sheriff's Sgt. Dave Valentine says Indio Falconer Downey was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after a car he was in was pulled over in West Hollywood.
Valentine says Indio Downey was booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, believed to be cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Two other people were in the car but only Indio Downey was arrested.
The 20-year-old was released shortly after 9 p.m. on $10,250 bail. A court date is set for Aug. 29.
Indio Downey appeared in the 2005 movie "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," which starred his father.
Robert Downey Jr., 49, struggled with drug addiction for years and had several drug-related arrests before he became sober in the early 2000s, reports CBS Los Angeles.
The 49-year-old released a statement to Entertainment Tonight following his son's arrest, saying, "Unfortunately there's a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it."
It continued, "There is a lot of family support and understanding and we're all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he's capable of being. We're grateful to the Sheriff's department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale."
