Reports: Donald Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner talks about Trump TV network
Donald Trump’s advisers and campaign aides have recently explored the idea of launching a video-based media company after the election to take advantage of his appeal, according to multiple reports.
The GOP presidential nominee’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, for example, met for coffee with prominent investment banker Aryeh Bourkoff to discuss the idea, but Bourkoff wasn’t interested, according to The Wall Street Journal. The Financial Times first reported on the meeting.
People familiar with the discussions told the Wall Street Journal that they were mulling the idea of a subscription-based online video service that could eventually be turned into a cable TV channel, the report said. His campaign aides, the report added, reached out to a subscription streaming technology provider in the last month to explore the project.
The New York Times also reported on Kushner’s communication with Bourkoff about the idea, which a person briefed on it said took place about a month ago. The Times also reported that the conversation was brief and hasn’t turned into anything.
In an interview with The Washington Post last month, Trump said that he wasn’t interested in starting a media company and said he was instead focusing on winning the White House on Nov. 8.
“No, never did,” he told the Post. “I want to win the presidency, and I want to make America great again. It’s very simple. I have no interest in a media company. False rumor.”
Trump, of course, previously hosted NBC’s “The Apprentice.”
