Report: Teen decapitated aunt's boyfriend as "present"
CHICAGO - A Chicago teen charged with killing and decapitating his aunt’s boyfriend on Christmas Day allegedly left the victim’s head on his aunt’s bed as a “present” for her, CBS Chicago reports.
Alexis Valdez, 18, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 41-year-old Silvestre Diaz-Hernandez, reports the station.
Prosecutors said at a bond hearing Thursday that Valdez had been living with his aunt and Diaz-Hernandez, his aunt’s boyfriend, but had reportedly been asked to move out after arguments about expenses. Valdez confessed to killing Diaz-Hernandez with a hammer, allegedly playing loud music and covering the apartment’s windows to mask the crime, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors allege Valdez then mutilated the body and decapitated the victim, leaving the head on his aunt’s bed.
“He wanted to ‘leave his aunt a present,’” Assistant State’s Attorney Kingsley Sawyer reportedly said.
Prosecutors allege Valdez called 911 to report a dead body. When the dispatcher asked whether he had attempted CPR, Valdez allegedly laughed and said the body had no head, reports the station.
Police reportedly discovered Valdez covered in blood. According to Sawyer, he told authorities, “If his aunt had come home, and seen the victim’s body, then he would have killed her as well.”
Friday, Valdez was ordered held without bond.
