(CBS/AP) LONDON - Pippa Middleton, who was thrust into the spotlight when she served as the maid of honor at her sister's wedding to Prince William, is now reportedly a single woman.

British media outlets are reporting that she and cricket-star-turned-banker Alex Loudon have split.

"It is common knowledge in their close circle of friends that Pippa and Alex have recently split up," a friend of Middleton's is quoted as telling the Times of London.

The Sun reports that while her newfound celebrity put a strain on the relationship, Middleton, 27, will "stay good friends" with Loudon, 30.

Middleton had not been seen publicly with Loudon for several weeks. Instead, she's been seen around town - and in Spain - with former flame George Percy, son of the Duke of Northumberland, one of Britain's richest men.

As the duke's eldest son, Percy stands to inherit a considerable fortune.

"The Duke of Northumberland's son would be a considerable catch," said Charles Kidd, editor of the blue blood bible Debrett's Peerage. "He's the heir to his father and his father's title. The duke is the highest rank of the peerage - they do rank just after the royal family."

Middleton's outings with Percy - at a tennis tournament and a posh London restaurant - prompted Britain's newspapers to report that she and Loudon have called it quits.
