Report: Hungarian camerawoman caught kicking migrant to sue him
A Hungarian camerawoman who was caught on camera attempting to kick and trip multiple migrants trying to reach deeper into Europe said she plans to sue one of them, according to multiple reports.
Petra Laszlo, who worked for Nemzeti Televizio N1TV in Hungary at the time of the early September incidents, has since been fired and is facing a criminal trial for her behavior.
Sky News reports she told a Russian newspaper that she plans to file two lawsuits when her trial is over.
The first will be to sue the refugee who she apparently kicked while he was attempting to flee police with his small son in his arms, Osama Abdul Mohsen. Laszlo said she believes he changed his testimony on the incident, from initially blaming police to blaming her instead.
She said she also plans to sue Facebook for allegedly refusing to remove groups threatening her on the site.
"My husband wants to prove my innocence. For him, it is now a matter of honour," Laszlo said.
Her run-in with Mohsen was broadcast around the world, as the migrant crisis in Europe had just started to gather international attention.
Several videos surfaced in early September showing Laszlo kicking migrants.
In videos and images posted online by multiple videographers and photojournalists, Laszlo can be seen making sideways karate-style kicks into the knees of two people - a young man and a pony-tailed teenage girl - as they ran past her. Both stumbled but neither fell as Laszlo continued filming.
She also was seen filming a running man carrying a young boy in his arms - then sticking out her leg to trip him as he passed. The man and boy tumbled to the ground, the man falling on top of the child. The boy can be seen crying in apparent pain as the man leaps up to curse at the camerawoman, who continues to film him.
