Report: DNC will offer Sanders backers seats on convention committee

After its public criticism of Bernie Sanders over Nevada's state convention last weekend, the Democratic National Committee is primed to concede a few things to the Vermont senator ahead of the party's convention in Philadelphia this summer: namely, seats on an important committee in charge of drafting the Democrats' platform.

Earlier this month, Sanders threatened a floor fight over the rules and platforms of the convention in a letter to the DNC, writing to DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz that the committees in charge should reflect the split in national voter support between Clinton and himself.

"If the process is set up to produce an unfair, one-sided result, we are prepared to mobilize our delegates to force as many votes as necessary to amend the platform and rules on the floor of the convention," Sanders wrote then.

At the time, Luis Miranda, a spokesperson for the DNC, said that "both our our campaigns will be represented on the drafting committee."

According to a Washington Post report published late Wednesday, the DNC is looking to make good on that pledge.

Negotiations are still ongoing, but the DNC plans to offer more seats to Sanders backers on the 15-person drafting committee that writes the party's platform. The Sanders campaign had hoped to split the committee evenly between his and Clinton's supporters, along with one "neutral" member. The DNC is unlikely to give Sanders seven seats on the committee, but the party will reportedly offer more than originally planned.

Members are selected under Wasserman Schultz's guidance.

According to the Post, the the DNC and the campaigns are expected to reach a final agreement by the end of the week.
