Reese Witherspoon backs out of TV appearances
Reese Witherspoon has backed out of a series of TV appearances following her arrest on Friday on disorderly conduct charges, reports The Washington Post.
The actress, who's is in the mist of promoting her new film "Mud," was scheduled to appear on Tuesday's episode of "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" and also pay a visit to "Good Morning America" this week, but she has pulled out of both appearances, the paper reports. Her "GMA" segment was supposed to be taped on Monday and air on Wednesday.
Witherspoon did, however, hit the red carpet Sunday night for a screening of "Mud" at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City. She posed for photographers but didn't speak with reporters.
The Oscar-winning actress and her husband, Hollywood agent Jim Toth, were arrested early Friday for driving under the influence of alcohol in Atlanta.
Witherspoon released a statement saying: "I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I'm very sorry for my behavior."
Witherspoon's hearing is scheduled for May 22, while Toth's court date is set for May 23.
"Mud," which co-stars Matthew McConaughey, hits theaters on Friday. It follows two teenage boys who try to help a fugitive avoid bounty hunters and reunite with a former love.
