Rapper Cassidy is actually not a murder suspect, say N.J. police in new statement
(CBS) - Philadelphia rapper Cassidy, recently arrested on a probation violation in Hackensack, N.J., is not a murder suspect as originally reported by several media outlets.
The artist, real name Barry Reese, was arrested May 14 solely on charges of violating probation in an an aggravated assault case, a representative from the Philadelphia police department told XXLMag.com.
Lt. Timothy Lloyd of the Hackensack police had told NorthJersey.com that although the warrant was issued for violating probation, Reese was also a suspect in a murder and two attempted murders in Philadelphia.
According to Lloyd, Reese "was very surprised" when police arrested him, reports NorthJersey.com.
The rapper was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in a 2006 shooting case and sentenced to 11-and-a-half to 23 months in jail.
