Quentin Tarantino's "Hateful Eight" gets distributor The Weinstein Company
Quentin Tarantino is moving forward with "The Hateful Eight," even though he previously proclaimed he wouldn't make the film following an online leak of the script.
The Weinstein Company said Wednesday it will distribute the writer-director's post-Civil War Western -- in the largest 70mm release in 20 years.
The film studio also said that "Hateful Eight" will be released in additional formats following its initial 70mm debut. Tarantino has been an outspoken critic of digital filmmaking.
Production on "Hateful Eight" is scheduled to begin in January. The film will be released in fall, 2015. The cast includes Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Bruce Dern and Amber Tamblyn.
Bob and Harvey Weinstein have a long history with Tarantino, who has won two writing Oscars -- one for "Pulp Fiction" and another for "Django Unchained." The Weinsteins have distributed his films "Reservoir Dogs," "Inglourious Basterds" and "Django."
Even though filming hasn't started yet, a poster for "The Hateful Eight" made its debut in the August issue of Empire magazine:
