Queen Rania of Jordan Takes New York by Storm
NEW YORK (CBS) Jordan's Queen Rania made a splash this week in New York, where she gave a speech closing Millennium Development Goals (MDG) summit, hosted the fifth annual Important Dinner for Women, spoke at the Clinton Global Initiative and gave her support to the Girl Up advocacy campaign for adolescent girls.

At the reception Thursday closing the summit, the queen told participants - business leaders, politicians and world leaders - that many of the world's underprivileged are counting on them to remember their goals .
The 2010 MDG summit concluded with the adoption of a global action plan to accomplish its eight goals by the 2015 target date.
The reception also featured remarks by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon; philanthropist and media mogul Ted Turner; Malawi President Mutharika, designer Tommy Hilfiger and musician Bob Geldof.
In her role as a Girl Up global advocate, the queen will heighten awareness of issues facing girls today and inspire teens to get involved.
A campaign of the United Nations Foundation, Girl Up aims to provide all girls of the world with to provide girls with such basic needs as access to school supplies, clean water, life-saving health services, and safety from violence.
Queen Rania also welcomed some 300 of the most powerful women in the world to a dinner Wednesday that she hosted with Wendi Murdoch, wife of News Corporation Chairman Rupert Murdoch\n and PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi.
Among the famous women attending were supermodels Gisele Bundchen, Christy Turlington, and Vernica Webb; designers Diane von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, and Ivanka Trump; actresses Ashley Judd, Deborra-Lee Furness, Molly Sims and Kelly Rutherford; singers Barbra Streisand, and Estelle; news anchor Katie Couric; cookbook authors Katie Lee and Jessica Seinfeld; and TV personalities Gayle King and Maria Bartiromo.
