Prosecution rests in landmark Etan Patz case
NEW YORK - Prosecutors have rested in the murder trial of a man accused of killing 6-year-old New York City boy Etan Patz in 1979.
Defense attorneys will begin presenting evidence Monday. The trial is expected to last at least another month.
Earlier Friday, prosecutors showed jurors a photo of a little boy crouching in a produce box. It was intended to show that Etan's body would have fit into such a box.
The defendant, Pedro Hernandez, told authorities he choked the boy then put the body in a bag and tossed it in a box.
Etan's body was never found. Defense attorneys say the confession is fiction.
Etan's disappearance turned the search for missing children into a national endeavor.
The child who posed for the photos shown in court Thursday was not identified and his face was obscured. He's about Etan's size and shape.
