No "probable Claus" to arrest this Santa

HOLLIS, N.H. - A man dressed as Santa Claus who thought he was spreading good cheer in a southern New Hampshire town apparently spread fear and panic instead.

According to CBS Boston, police say on Thursday the “Claus in question” knocked on school windows at the Hollis Primary School, then entered the building.

Administrators had called police around 10 a.m. Thursday after they saw the man outside, tapping on windows and waving at students.

Santa got “buzzed” into the school but ran away when he saw a look of alarm on a staffer’s face.

Police responded as a precaution, other schools and parents were notified, and kids were kept inside for recess.

Officials said in a news release that the man contacted police a couple of hours later to say he was only trying to spread “holiday cheer without understanding the possible perception and reaction that followed.”

Police say the would-be Santa lives in the town, but they aren’t identifying him because he wasn’t charged with any crimes.
