Pro-Romney super PAC raises $5 million in May

(CBS News) The super PAC supporting presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney raised $5 million in May, slightly more than the $4.6 million it raised in April, and spent almost $2 million more in May than in April, according to the latest Federal Election Commission filing posted today. 

As of May 31, Restore Our Future had $8 million in cash on hand according to FEC records.

Wednesday, Restore Our Future launched a series of ad buys worth $7 million in key swing states. The super PAC has raised over $61 million since last July.

Las Vegas casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson's recent commitment to Restore Our Future of $10 million did not appear in this filing and most likely will be reflected in the PAC's next filing on July 20.

Wednesday's report shows the super PAC has received more small dollar donations from middle class Americans. For example, a farmer gave $50.00, a union member from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers gave $100.00 and a disabled woman in Arizona gave just $16.00.

May's Restore Our Future filing also had more donations from small to mid-size businesses as opposed to exclusively relying on heavy donations from large private equity firms and hedge funds. For example, an Ohio company called Reynolds and Reynolds that makes sales software for auto dealers gave a million dollars split between three subsidiaries. Yardarm Knot that catches and distributes wild Alaskan seafood and gave $10,000 and a precision fluid measuring company called Hamilton Management in Nevada gave $30,000.
