Prep school grad in NH sex assault case has new lawyers

CONCORD, N.H. -- A New England prep school graduate convicted of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old freshman as part of a game of sexual conquest has new lawyers, following prosecutors' arguments that his lawyer has a conflict of interest.

Three Washington attorneys have asked to join Owen Labrie's case. He's seeking a new trial on charges stemming from an encounter he had with the teen in 2014 at St. Paul's School in Concord.

Prosecutors said Labrie's local lawyer, Jaye Rancourt, took an active role in his trial defense and shouldn't represent him because he's arguing that his trial team was ineffective. Labrie's lawyers say Rancourt was barred from reviewing key documents and didn't question expert witnesses.

Labrie started serving a one-year sentence in March. A judge revoked the 20-year-old's bail after Labrie admitted violating curfew. Labrie's appealing that decision.
