Poll: Hillary Clinton holds slim lead over Donald Trump in New Hampshire
Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 4 percentage points in the battleground state of New Hampshire, according to a Monmouth University released Wednesday.
The poll found 46 percent of likely voters support Clinton compared to 42 percent who support Trump. Seven percent said they plan to vote for Libertarian Gary Johnson and 1 percent backs Green Party candidate Jill Stein.
Despite Clinton’s slim advantage, her lead has narrowed since the last poll in September showed Clinton leading Trump by 9 percentage points -- 47 percent to 38 percent.
A majority of women and a majority of voters with a college degree in the latest poll support Clinton while a majority of men and a majority of non-college graduates support Trump.
Just over a quarter of voters view Trump favorably, the new poll found, and a third felt the same way about Clinton.
The poll found that the Senate race in the state is in a dead heat: incumbent GOP Sen. Kelly Ayotte is tied with Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan 46 percent to 46 percent. Twenty-nine percent said that Ayotte has been too supportive of Trump and 24 percent said that she hasn’t been supportive of him enough.
The Senate race is one of the most competitive of this year’s cycle and could determine who controls the upper chamber next year. Democrats would need to gain five seats in order to win back control from Republicans.
The poll surveyed 401 New Hampshire likely voters between Oct. 22 and 25 with a 4.9 percentage point margin of error.
