Police: Woman runs over boyfriend after alleged sex assault try

NOBELBORO, Maine - Police say a Maine woman ran over her boyfriend with her car after she allegedly caught him trying to sexually assault her 12-year-old niece.

The woman, 53-year-old Linda Currier, from the coastal town of Nobleboro, and her boyfriend, 48-year-old James Oliver, are both facing charges in connection with what police are calling a domestic disturbance Saturday night.

Police say it started when Currier walked in on Oliver, a registered sex offender, who she says was trying to assault the girl.

Currier and Oliver got into a fight, and outside, Currier struck Oliver with her car. Oliver was taken to the hospital with a leg injury.

CBS affiliate WGME reports both adults were drinking at the time.

Currier was charged with drunken driving and aggravated assault. Oliver faces charges including attempted sexual assault. He is being held in jail.

The girl was not injured.
