Cops: Purse stolen from Calif. hit-and-run victim
HIGHLANDS, Calif. --Police are searching for a thief who stole a 72-year-old woman's purse just after she was struck by a car while crossing the street, reports CBS Los Angeles.
San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies were called out to the scene of a pedestrian crash Tuesday and found the woman lying in the street, according to officials. The woman was reportedly surrounded by several bystanders.
Having suffered visible, but minor, injuries, officials say she was confused as to how the crash happened. The driver cooperated with the deputies, who determined the woman had been unsafely crossing the road when she was struck, according to the station.
Police later discovered that the woman's purse -- containing her cash, credit cards and identification -- was stolen as she was lying on the street, according to CBS Los Angeles.
Anyone who witnessed the accident or has information about the theft is urged to contact deputies at (909) 425-9793.
