Cops: Illinois officer among 3 arrested in Calif. stabbing
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. -- Police have arrested three men in a stabbing outside a Huntington Beach gym -- and one of the suspects is apparently an Illinois police officer, according to CBS Los Angeles.
The incident occurred in front of a 24 Hour Fitness location Sunday afternoon, reports the station. Two people were walking in front of the gym when an argument started with two men and women in a vehicle, police say.
A physical altercation erupted from the argument and one of the pedestrians, a 17-year-old boy, was stabbed, according to CBS Los Angeles. The boy was later taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and has since been released.
The teen's name was not released, according to the station. His companion, a 31-year-old Anaheim man, was reportedly not injured.
The three suspects soon fled, but were later found, arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, reports CBS Los Angeles. A man and woman were reportedly identified as married couple Jessica Roman, 27, and Martin Roman, 25.
The third suspect was identified as Arthur Roman, 28, whom police later identified as an Illinois police officer. Arthur and Martin are brothers, according to police.
Jessica and Martin were reportedly released after posting $25,000 bail, while Arthur had to post $100,000 bail as he is from out of state, police say.
Despite reports that the two pedestrians may have been attacked because they were speaking Arabic, a police spokesperson assured the public this was not a hate crime, according to CBS Los Angeles.
"This was a spur-of-the-moment argument," she added.
