Police: "DJ Awesome" hired friend to kill wife
ATLANTA -- Police say a popular Atlanta disc jockey hired a hit man to kill his wife.
Andre Pugh, aka "DJ Awesome," was arrested Saturday, reports CBS affiliate WGCL. The Fulton County medical examiner confirmed that his wife, Tiffany Pugh, was shot to death in her East Point, Ga., home.
Police said the victim suffered two gunshot wounds during the Nov. 23 attack.
Andre Pugh is accused of hiring his best friend, Adrian Harley, to kill his wife. Police said both men have been charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit burglary.
Two-and-a-half weeks before Tiffany Pugh's death, she contacted an attorney for a consultation about obtaining a divorce, CBS News has learned.
The attorney, who asked to remain anonymous, said Tiffany expressed typical concerns about how Andre Pugh would react to the divorce and child custody issues.
CBS News asked what prompted Tiffany Pugh to seek counsel for a divorce, but the attorney declined to comment.
The attorney described Tiffany as "an amazing person and great mother," who was "trying to do something about her situation ... it was just a little too late."
Police say just weeks later, both Andre Pugh and his friend Adrian Harley carried Tiffany Pugh's casket at her funeral.
Before officers arrived on the scene Nov. 23, Pugh allegedly told a 911 operator that his wife had been murdered, according to the police incident report. The operator asked him if he had gone inside the home. He said he hadn't yet gone inside, but that an alarm company had told him there had been a break-in.
As officers arrive at the scene, Andre Pugh was in the middle of the street yelling, "My kids are in there! She's not picking up the phone," according to the report filed by police.
The report said after police went inside, they found two children asleep. Another small child was straddling Tiffany Pugh, who had been shot in the head.
Andre Pugh was arrested at Club Onyx, where he works as a disc jockey, on Saturday, Dec. 6.
