Playtex Pacifiers Recalled

In conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Playtex, the personal care company, has recalled nearly two million of its pacifiers.

The recall only includes the Classic Patterns "Cherubs" and Soft Comfort latex pacifiers. They may choke babies because the latex ages faster than normal and falls off.

So far Playtex has received 21 reports of the nipple pacifiers detaching from the shield of the pacifier, but no injuries have been reported.

Classic Patterns pacifiers have the word "Cherubs" embossed in bold black letters on the colored knob of the pacifier shield. Soft Comfort pacifiers have a soft, butterfly-shaped shield, available with or without a swivel handle.

The pacifiers come in a variety of colors and designs, packaged individually or in sets of two. They were sold nationwide before June for $2 to $4, depending on whether they were sold in single or double packs.

Consumers should stop using the recalled pacifiers immediately and return them to Playtex for a free replacement pacifier or a $3 coupon toward the purchase of another Playtex infant product, the manufacturer said.

The problem pacifiers may be sent to Playtex Pacifiers, Playtex Products Inc., 20 Troy Road, Whippany, NJ 07981. Playtex will reimburse consumers for postage.

For more information, consumers can visit the Playtex.com Web site or the U.S.Consumer Product Safety Commission Web site, or call 800-522-8230.
