Pepsi ad revisits Jackson, Charles, Spears and Kanye
(CBS/AP) The cola wars. If you've missed them, good news. They may be back on.
After featuring some of the biggest names in music in its ads, Pepsi is now featuring all of them all over again. Pepsi's "Music Icons" commercial includes clips of Michael Jackson's "Pepsi Generation" ad, Ray Charles at the piano, Mariah Carey on a sparkly motorcycle, Britney Spears dancing on the roof and Kanye West leaving a trail of color. The commercial premiered during Wednesday's "X Factor."
"The ads also feature a hooded, mystery singer who snatches a Pepsi before heading on stage. That image makes it very clear that Pepsi is looking for the next superstar to feature in its spots."
Coke sponsors "American Idol," the show on which "X Factor" creator Simon Cowell became a household name in the United States.
