Pa. teacher charged with selling heroin from home
McKEES ROCKS, Pa. - A high school special education teacher in Pennsylvania is charged with selling heroin out of his Robinson Township home, reports CBS Pittsburgh.
Charles Schaldenbrand, 44, faces five felony charges, including possession and delivery of heroin.
According to the state Attorney General's Office, Schaldenbrand sold about $350 worth of heroin to an undercover informant at least twice.
A criminal complaint obtained by the station says a confidential informant contacted Schaldenbrand on his cell phone in December about making a heroin buy. The complaint alleges Schaldenbrand suggested making the deal at his home, instructing the buyer to look for the drugs in a can by a wheelbarrow.
Robinson Police Chief Dale Vietmeier owns the home where Schaldenbrand lives and told CBS Pittsburgh he was "very surprised" to hear about the charges against his tenant.
Vietmeier said Schaldenbrand had been renting the single family home for about a year and had been living with his father and a roommate. Vietmeier said he first learned of the criminal investigation last month when the AG's office executed a search warrant at the house.
Following news of the allegations, the Montour School District, where Schaldenbrand taught special education, issued a statement saying the teacher will be put on paid suspension pending a preliminary hearing in the case scheduled this week.
Schaldenbrand is out on bond.
