The full lineup for the July 27 ceremony, overseen by "Slumdog Millionaire" director Danny Boyle and themed "Isles of Wonder," has not yet been announced, but many had suspected McCartney would be involved.

The announcement comes a day after McCartney performed at the Diamond Jubilee concert honoring Queen Elizabeth II.

The Olympic Games will take place from July 27 to Aug. 12.
