(CBS/AP) When all is said and done, Plaxico Burress will be remembered for two things - catching the game-winning touchdown against the Patriots in the 2008 Super Bowl and accidentally shooting himself in the thigh at a Manhattan night club later that year.

Burress may no longer play for the Giants but the Ghost of Plaxico Past seemed to be on hand at Gillette Stadium Sunday when the Patriots hosted the G-Men.

The eerie sequence of events started about 45 minutes before kickoff when a 50-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the leg in a parking lot outside the stadium.

According to the AP, the unidentified man was taken to a hospital, but his wound was not considered life-threatening.

Hmmm. Sounds familiar.

Fast forward to the game itself. With just over a minute left against the heavily favored Patriots, Eli Manning improbably led the Giants 80 yards down the field, hitting Jake Ballard for a 1-yard touchdown with 15 seconds left.

The 24-20 win felt an awful lot like the come-from-behind victory in the 2008 title game between the teams. (The Giants won that one, 17-14, on Manning's 13-yard scoring pass to Burress with 35 seconds remaining.)

Plaxico may have been playing for the Jets in Buffalo on Sunday but his spirit seemed to be with the Giants at Gillette Stadium.
