Passage: Toy Hall of Fame
It happened this past week . . . the induction of three new members into the National Toy Hall of Fame in Rochester, New York.
Nine other toys were nominated, which -- as we well know -- is also an honor.
Established in 1998 at the Strong National Museum of Play, the National Toy Hall of Fame recognizes classic toys that over time have "inspired creative play and enjoyed popularity."
This year's runners-up include the Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles . . .
The American Girl Doll . . .
Fisher Price Little People . . .
My Little Pony . . .
The Hess Toy Truck. . .
The "Operation Game" . . .
The Slip 'n Slide . . .
... as well as two NON-brand-name toys : the homemade paper airplane, and kitchen pots and pans (yes, really!).
But it's the three WINNING inductees who are getting most of the attention.
They are the Rubik's Cube . . . Little Green Army Men . . . and BUBBLES, hailed as "the toy of the imagination."
