Parents questioned in death of newborn who fell from window
NEW YORK --Police in New York City are investigating the death of a newborn baby who allegedly died after being dropped out of an apartment window in the Bronx, reports CBS New York.
Officers were called to the building Monday afternoon, after the wife of the building's superintendent found the baby's body in a courtyard. The infant's umbilical cord was still attached, according to CBS New York.
The infant's mother was taken to an area hospital Monday and police questioned her Tuesday. Police questioned the father and released him.
Investigators say surveillance video shows the infant girl falling from a seventh-floor window. The city's medical examiner ruled the baby's death a homicide caused by multiple blunt force injuries.
Witness Janiqua Torres described a haunting scene to CBS New York.
"It's something I will never forget," said Torres. "It was a lot of blood."
She and her husband watched as paramedics escorted the mother from the apartment.
"She looked zoned out ... like she wasn't there," Torres said.
No charges have been filed.
