Palms Hotel owner George Maloof pleads no contest to DUI

(CBS/KLAS/AP)LAS VEGAS - Palms hotel-casino owner George Maloof has pleaded no contest to driving under the influence in Las Vegas.

Maloof was scheduled for a bench trial on May 31, but attorneys worked out a plea deal Thursday. He will have to pay a $580 fine, attend DUI school and go to a victim impact panel for the October incident, reports CBS affiliate KLAS.

He is scheduled to be back in court for a status check on August 4.

According to the station, Maloof was arrested in October 9, 2010 while making an illegal turn into his neighborhood southwest of the Las Vegas Strip. According to police his blood alcohol level was .086. The legal limit in Nevada is .08.

Maloof told The Associated Press that he had four beers at a wedding, thought at the time he thought he was "nowhere near intoxicated."
