Pair rescued from plane crash off Bahamas

MIAMI - A dramatic rescue at sea as Coast Guard crews from Miami swept in to rescue two people whose small plane crashed off the Bahamas.

CBS Station WFOR reports that the Coast Guard command center in Miami received word early Saturday afternoon from pilot 59-year-old Richard McGlaughlin that the single engine plane he and his passenger, 25-year old Elaine McGlaughlin, were in had developed engine trouble and were going down about two miles west of Andros, Bahamas.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and a HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft were launched and around 12:30 p.m. found the downed aircraft, along with the McGlaughlins in an inflatable raft.

The rescue helicopter crew arrived on scene at 12:58 p.m. and safely hoisted them onto the aircraft. They were transferred them to Odyssey Airport in Nassau, Bahamas.

The McGlaughlins, from Alabama, were not injured.
