(CBS) "Now, who are you wearing?" is always one of the first questions the stars are asked as they walk down the Oscars red carpet.

The Academy Awards is not only a major night for films, but also a big night for fashion. After already walking multiple red carpets in the months of January and February, many stars save their best gowns for last.

On the Critics' Choice, Golden Globe and SAG red carpets there was a wide array of gowns from bright solid color gowns, to ones with black lace cut-outs, to even sexier gowns with thigh high slits. While there were definite standouts on the red carpet, not one of the celebs' gowns really wowed audiences.

Since the Academy Awards are on the heels of New York, London and Milan's fashion weeks, stars like Rooney Mara and Viola Davis will have new, never-worn fashions to choose from for their big night.

"The Oscars are the biggest fashion show on the planet," designer Marc Bouwer told Reuters.

The Academy Awards provides an audience of millions of people for the world's top designers, with red carpet photographs that go on to live forever in magazines and on the web.

See who will own the Oscars red carpet this year at the Academy Awards, this Sunday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. ET on ABC.
