One dead after shootout near Dallas Benihana restaurant
DALLAS -- A suspect is dead after an attempted robbery turned into a shootout in front of a Dallas Benihana restaurant, reports CBS DFW.
The station reports two people were leaving the restaurant Sunday night and heading to their car when they were approached by a man. Witnesses told police the suspect asked the people for a lighter, but then pulled a mask over his face and drew a gun.
The robbery victim drew a gun from his car and got into a shootout with the suspect, with several shots fired in the restaurant's parking lot. Both were struck by bullets, reports the station.
"I was patrolling the parking lot in the golf cart and, suddenly, I heard some gunshots," security guard Jesus Penaloza told the station. "Maybe about from six to eight."
The suspect, a 28-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The victim, a 30-year-old man, was taken to a different hospital in stable condition, reports the station.
It's not clear whether the incident was random or targeted, and police also have not said whether the two victims were restaurant workers or customers, reports the station.
