On the dangerous road to Aleppo in Syria

(CBS News) In Syria, rebels with rifles are holding out against one of the most powerful armies in the Middle East.

Fighting raged for an eleventh day in Aleppo. The ancient city is Syria's largest, with more than 3 million people. Rebels hold some neighborhoods.

It's been a year and a half since a popular uprising began to overthrow the 42-year-old dictatorship of the Assad family.

About 200,000 residents of Aleppo have fled as government forces pound the rebels. The dictatorship doesn't allow reporters into the war zone, but CBS News correspondent Charlie D'Agata slipped into the area, past the Syrian army.

D'Agata found numerous refugees from the city hiding in nearby villages, and funerals for those killed in the fighting. Watch D'Agata's full report above.
