On 20th anniversary, the Obamas campaign

On their 20th wedding anniversary and just hours before her husband faces off against Mitt Romney in the first presidential debate, Michelle Obama shared with voters a more personal side of the president.

"Back when I first met Barack, he definitely had everything going for him," Mrs. Obama said to a crowd in Reno, Nev. "He was charming, talented, and very smart, but that is not why I married him. Now this is where I want the fellas to pay attention. What truly made me fall in love with Barack Obama, it was his character."

The first lady also appeared on the Steve Harvey show Wednesday, which was taped last Thursday, where she talked about how the president was "hitting on" her when she was his adviser at the law firm where they worked.

"I was actually trying to introduce him to my friends," she said, until he told her, "'I want to date you.' He was very clear about what he wanted."

Steve Harvey took Mrs. Obama on "a walk down memory lane," showing pictures of Mr. and Mrs. Obama's first date at the Art Institute of Chicago and to see Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing."

Harvey showed a picture of a plaque in Chicago's Hyde Park commemorating their first kiss, which Mrs. Obama said happened after eating chocolate Baskin Robbins ice cream. The plaque quotes the president as saying, "...I kissed her and it tasted like chocolate."

The first couple has not yet seen each other on their anniversary, but the president wished her happy anniversary on Twitter.

Without losing sight of Election Day, the Obama campaign asked supporters to sign a card wishing them a happy anniversary. After "signing" the card that includes a three-and-a-half minute video with pictures of the president and Mrs. Obama, the signatory is directed to a donation page for the campaign.

"Thanks for signing the card -- now, can you chip in?" is the message on the Obama campaign website.
