Omaha School Shooting: Millard South High School Shooter Left Disturbing Facebook Post
OMAHA, Neb. (CBS/AP) Robert Butler Jr., the Millard South High School senior who shot two administrators, killing one, before killing himself posted a disturbing status update on Facebook before the shooting.
The status update reads:"Everybody that used to know me, I'm sorry but Omaha changed me and f**ked me up. And the school I attend is even worse," the message read. "You're gonna here about the evil s**t I did but that f**king school drove me to this. I want you guys to remember me for who I was before this. I greatly affected the lives of the families ruined but I'm sorry. Goodbye."
Butler was new to the school. "He started going to school here in November," Omaha Police Chief Alex
Hayes said. "He was a transfer student
from Lincoln." He was the son of an Omaha police officer.
Calls to 911 from the school indicate that 4-5 shots were fired inside the school office. The principal and assistant principal of the school were wounded. Vice Principal Vicki Kaspar died Wednesday night, reports CBS affiliate KMTV. Principal Dr. Curtis Case remained in serious condition Wednesday night.
The school declared a "Code Red" and went into a state of lockdown. Students rushed into the school's kitchen when the gunman opened fire. Sixteen-year-old Laura Olson, a junior at Millard, said she was just beginning lunch when the principal rushed into the cafeteria.
"He was like yelling, 'Get in the kitchen! Get in the kitchen!' He was waving his arms. You knew something was wrong and it wasn't a drill," Olson told The Associated Press.
Just after the shooting, Butler took off in his red Honda, driving about two miles away. Butler pulled into a business parking lot, put the Honda in park and, according to police, shot himself.
The high school sits on the west side of Omaha, within city limits, and has about 2,100 students.
