Ole Miss Gets Another Manning

Eli Manning, son of Archie and brother of Peyton, decided Friday he would play football at Mississippi, the school where his dad became famous.

"I wanted to make my decision early, finish out my senior year and have fun," Manning, 18, said.

Manning, 18, guided Newman High School to an 11-1 record and a berth in the state playoffs for the second consecutive year, completing 134 of 229 passes for 2,336 yards and 29 touchdowns.

"I'm not trying to compare myself to Peyton," he said of his older brother, who played at Tennessee and is now in the NFL with Indianapolis. "I just want to go to college and have a good college experience."

He did say he'd choose a new number for himself; his dad and brother each wore 18.

Archie Manning said he worried there might be extra pressure on his son at Ole Miss, considering his own career there. But he said his son seems willing to wait his turn to play.

"There'll be some time before he gets in there. That doesn't seem to bother him," the elder Manning said.

"I know how hard it is to start as a freshman in the SEC," Eli said.
