Ohio police say teen girl's threat of school shooting was for attention
AKRON, Ohio -- Police in Ohio say they have arrested a 15-year-old girl who threatened to bring a gun to her high school and kill several classmates.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports the girl has been suspended from school and charged with menacing and inducing a panic.
Lt. Luke Marchmon says a teacher at Copley High School, in Summit County near Akron, found a threatening note Monday on the floor of a classroom. Parents were notified, but the school remained open.
The note contained the names of six students, including the girl who police say wrote it.
Marchmon says the girl confessed that she wrote the threat for attention and she specifically targeted girls considered more popular than her.
Police say the girl's parents don't own a gun and they believe no action was planned.
