Ohio mom accused of killing 3 young sons could get death penalty
BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio -- An Ohio woman accused of killing her three sons over a 13-month period out of jealousy for her husband's attention has been indicted on aggravated murder charges and could face the death penalty.
The charges against Brittany Pilkington of Bellefontaine were announced Tuesday by the Logan County prosecutor.
Investigators say the 23-year-old smothered two sons, 4-year-old Gavin, who died in April, and 3-month-old Niall, who died in July 2014. Authorities took custody of her third son, Noah, after he was born three months ago, but a judge allowed him to return home because there wasn't conclusive evidence the older boys had been killed. That 3-month-old died Aug. 18.
No working telephone number for the family's home could be found, and no attorney information was available for the woman.
Pilkington's mother said her daughter told her in a jailhouse phone call that she's innocent.
Pilkington is jailed on $1 million bond.
