October New Music Mixtape ft. Ne-Yo, Flying Lotus, Alunageorge
At CBSNews.com, we always have an ear out for the next big thing in music.
Here's a playlist of new tracks we have on repeat in October:
Ne-Yo: "She Knows" ft. Juicy J
If you're accustomed to a sensitive, "so sick of love songs" Ne-Yo, here's a breath of fresh air. The singer shows an edgier side on the lead single for his upcoming LP, "Non-Fiction." Add a rap verse from Juicy J, and we definitely have a hit on our hands:
Elle King: "Ex's and Oh's"
Elle King shows off her pipes on "Ex's and Oh's," which sounds like a cross between Gabriella Cilmi and "Easy A". Give it a listen:
Flying Lotus: "Never Catch Me" ft. Kendrick Lamar
"Exhilarating" is a fitting way to describe the collaboration between Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar. The West Coast rapper's verses are perfectly suited for Flotus' jazzy arrangement, making this one of the better rap tracks of 2014:
Alunageorge: "Supernatural"
We haven't heard much of electronic duo Alunageorge since their 2013 album, "Body Music," until just last week when they dropped this very satisfying new single:
B.O.B: "Not For Long" ft. Trey Songz
Atlanta's own Bobby Ray and "Mr. Steal Your Girl" team up to sing about just that -- stealing your girl. "You will be mine, even if you're somebody else's, but not for long," Trey sings. Keep your ladies away, fellas, I think they're serious:
TV on the Radio: "Careful You"
This lovingly eclectic Brooklyn band has released two tracks from their upcoming album "Seeds": the leading single, "Happy Idiot," and this catchy, slow-burning track. "Careful You" don't get this song stuck in your head! Okay just listen:
Damien Rice: "I Don't Want to Change You"
This is a lovely song from singer-songwriter Damien Rice, who teamed up with producer Rick Rubin for his upcoming album, "My Favorite Faded Fantasy." If this is any indication, we'll have that on heavy rotation soon:
Screaming Females: "Wishing Well"
Here's a great '90s-sounding song from Screaming Females -- who are usually way more punk -- about throwing dimes in a wishing well:
Parquet Courts: "Uncut Shadows of the Southern Myth"
A very busy band, Parquet Courts has already released an album this year and now the band is coming out with another one. This song has a classic-rock feel to it, like something unreleased by the Marshall Tucker Band or Bob Dylan. Listen in:
The Ting Tings: "Do It Again"
The duo that brought you "That's Not My Name" is back with a single from their upcoming album, "Super Critical." Here's "Do It Again":
