Occupy Wall St. ready for big Thanksgiving crowd

NEW YORK - Occupy Wall Street protesters say they're getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving with music performances and meals for 5,000 people.

Protesters will have turkey with all the fixings on Thursday, along with cranberries and mashed potatoes, said Cari Machet, a volunteer with the demonstrators' public relations working group.

They will also have gluten-free and vegetarian fare. The food is being donated by restaurants and individual supporters.

"It's going to be festive even though we're highly policed," Machet said.

Workers plan to wrap plates individually so they can be taken into Zuccotti Park where the protest is centered, Machet said. The company that owns the park, Brookfield Office Properties, has kept protesters from bringing in large objects ever since police raided the park last week to clear out the tents of protesters.

The protesters do not have a permit for loudspeakers, so the music will be live and acoustic, Machet said.

Brookfield has also barred protesters from lying down in the park, meaning there will be no Turkey Day naps.
