Obamas might stay in D.C. after president leaves office
President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama might decide to keep their family in Washington after the president’s second term ends in January 2017, they told ABC News’ Barbara Walters in an interview set to air Friday evening.
The Obamas’ older daughter, Malia, will likely be in college by the time the first family departs the White House, but their younger daughter, Sasha, will be only a high school sophomore. And that, the Obamas indicated, could be the determining factor in whether they stay in the district.
“We’ve gotta – you know we gotta make sure that she’s doing well,” the president said. “Sasha will have a big say in where we are.”
The Obama girls attend Sidwell Friends School, and the president suggested he could be reluctant to uproot Sasha midway through high school.
“Obviously they and Michelle have made a lot of sacrifices on behalf of my cockamamie ideas, the running for office and things," Mr. Obama joked.
If the president decides to keep his family in D.C. after he leaves office, he would be the first president to do so since Woodrow Wilson, ABC noted.
