Obama meets with Steven Sotloff's family
President Obama on Thursday met with the family of Steven Sotloff, the American journalist beheaded by ISIS last year.
While in Miami to tour the National Hurricane Center, the president had the opportunity to meet with the Florida-based family, including Steven's parents Art and Shirley Sotloff and his sister Lauren.
According to Bernadette Meehan, a National Security Council spokesperson, Mr. Obama expressed his and First Lady Michelle Obama's condolences for Steven's death. He also acknowledged the foundation the family started to support journalists reporting from conflict-torn parts of the world, called 2Lives: Steven Joel Sotloff Memorial Foundation.
Mr. Obama "appreciated the chance to hear from the Sotloffs more about Steven's work as a journalist, including his passion for bringing the stories of people who are suffering to the rest of the world in the hope of making a positive difference, including in Syria," Meehan said.
