NYPD cop Jason Arbeeny convicted of planting crack on couple
(AP/CBS) NEW YORK - A New York City detective was convicted Tuesday of planting drugs on a woman and her boyfriend.
Jason Arbeeny, a 14-year veteran of the NYPD who worked in the Brooklyn South unit, was found guilty of official misconduct, falsifying business records and submitting a false instrument for filing. He faces up to four years in prison.
Prosecutors said that Arbeeny planted a bag of crack cocaine on two unsuspecting victims in 2007.
Arbeeny's case made headlines last month when a former NYPD detective testifying for the prosecution said that officers in some Brooklyn narcotics units routinely planted drugs on innocent people.
