NYPD cop accused of having sexual relationship with teenager

NEW YORK -- A New York police officer was charged with rape, for an alleged sexual relationship with a teenage girl, reports CBS New York.

Officer Vladimir Sosa's Bronx, N.Y. neighbors say he is known in the community for his religious devotion. But the 38-year-old man who carries a Bible around while off-duty was arrested Tuesday night at his home.

Sosa -- a seven-year veteran of the force -- was charged with rape, committing a criminal sex act, sexual misconduct, sexual abuse, and acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17, police said.

The girl involved was 16 at the time of the incident and is now 17, police sources said.

Sosa is among the leaders of a church where he allegedly met the girl, sources said. The church holds services at various hotels in the Bronx.

Police say Sosa had sex with the girl at his home multiple times between last April and September.

The girl's mother reported the alleged incidents last month after finding innapropriate text messages on her daughter's cell phone, police said.

No one answered the door at Sosa's apartment Tuesday night. Neighbors said he lives with his mother.

Neighbor Maria Torres described Sosa as polite and courteous, but remained concerned for her children and grandchildren who live with her.

"When he came out in the morning, he said, 'Good morning.' He would say, 'Good afternoon, good afternoon,'" she said.

Sosa was released Tuesday night on a personal recognizance bond Tuesday night. He will appear in court again on April 17, according to the Bronx District Attorney's office.
