NY Court Hears Salinger Suit
An author who's being sued by J.D. Salinger for copyright infringement is asking a Manhattan judge to let his book be published.
A hearing is scheduled Wednesday about the novel, called "60 Years Later." Its author, Fredrik Colting, writes under the name John David California.
The famously reclusive Salinger is not expected to be in court.
Colting says his novel is a legally protected commentary and parody of "The Catcher In the Rye."
A character called "Mr. C" is presumed to be Holden Caulfield as an old man. It also features an author named "J.D. Salinger."
The real Salinger has sued Colting, his publisher and his distributor. He's trying to stop the summer release of the book he says is a ripoff of his famous novel.
