"Noodling" catching on in Texas
Noodling is the "art" of catching catfish with your bare hands. Although it may not sound like it, the activity is actually a sport - and can be a dangerous one at that. The activity has been prohibited it some states due to concern for fishermen and also fish populations, but in Texas, the activity was recently legalized.
With adventure in mind, "Early Show" Contributor Tyler McGill traveled to murky waters just outside Dallas to experience the unique fishing stylings firsthand.
McGill learned that for some people - sitting on a boat with a rod and a reel just doesn't do it. They prefer being in the water - face to face with a fish - and in some cases, a 70-pound catfish.
Brady Knowlton, a 30-year-old oilman and outdoor enthusiast, who fought to have noodling legalized in Texas, told McGill, "I think that there is a charm in a world where everybody's on an IPad or crackberry to just go down to the bare essentials of what we are and to interact with Mother Nature, and to have this thrill of this wrestling match with the fish, I think it's just a beautiful thing."
Knowlton has thrived in the sport of "noodling" and had the thrill of catching a 78-pound catfish.
So what about McGill? Did he catch a fish on his "noodling" adventure? Check out his report below:
