Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Jenni "JWoww" Farley open up on family life
You saw them on "The Jersey Shore," drinking, dancing and wearing lots of skintight animal print dresses and day-glo tank tops. But Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Jenni "JWoww" Farley have traded in their hard partying days for quieter lives at home with their husbands and children.
Now, the two reality stars are sharing their new lives on the reality/lifestyle Web series "Snooki and JWoww: Moms with Attitude" on YouTube channel Awestruck. By the way, they may not have given up on the animal print. Polizzi and Farley talked to CBS News about their new show and their new lives as moms.
Tell us about the new show -- will it be different from your show on MTV?
Farley: It's actually very similar. It's a nice transition from our show "Jenni and Snooki" on MTV. We have points that we want to get across every episode, whether it's teaching potty training or a DIY project or just having fans ask questions on something we can help them with. It's along the lines of reality TV as well, but we're trying to help each other and help fans and millennial moms with parenting and get help back, because we'll be asking just as many questions to our fans that experience what we're going through.
It sounds like the show will be very interactive.
Farley: That's the best part about it and that's what we're excited for. Being moms and having children isn't easy, and it's a big support group we're excited to be a part of.
You two DIY on the show. What are some projects we can look out for?
Farley: I'm the one who doesn't do them well. I can paint really well -- I did a Minion -- but when it comes to building and arts and crafts, I'm the worst. I'll be more on the cooking and painting side. And Nicole will be on more the DIY side because I epically fail every time.
Polizzi: We already filmed some stuff for my kid's birthday party, so centerpieces for that. I made a kid's bow holder for babies as a gift for my girlfriends for their kids and babies, and house stuff. I haven't filmed much of that yet because my schedule's been insane. Just a lot of decorative pieces and house decor.
Jenni, what are your signature dishes?
I love chicken piccata, chicken parm, penne alla vodka ... I might be trying to attempt some holiday dishes. I really like cooking it all. Me and Nicole made sushi one night a year ago and that was phenomenal, so learning new things and using our old skills -- I'm down for anything.
How is this different from your past TV shows?
Polizzi: When I was on "The Jersey Shore," that was four seasons, and with "Snooki and JWoww," that was us settling down, having kids and getting married. This is more quick videos of being moms and showing things about what we're doing with our kids, whether it's DIY stuff or cooking. It's really personal with our kids and talking to the camera. We're not used to doing that so it's definitely a different kind of way to interact with our fans.
How often do you two get to see each other?
Polizzi: We just saw each other in Nashville because we saw each other at the Tanning Convention. We get to see each other a couple times a month, which is nice.
Was it hard for you two to adjust to family life?
Polizzi: No, because I always wanted to be a mom. It was definitely earlier than I thought it would be, but you can ask any woman: It comes very naturally and everything happens for a reason. I love it.
Farley: I can't even remember the old Nicole. I just know the wife and mom. It's like looking back on a whole different life.
When you look back on the "Jersey Shore" days, you two had very different style. How has your style evolved? Nicole, you have a new clothing line out and your style has changed a lot.
Farley: I just wear whatever's in my top drawer because my kids will probably ruin it all day.
Polizzi: I'm in my PJs all day or if not, I'm in workout clothes and that's about it. But [outside of that] I would say definitely more chic and simple because I don't like to go too crazy, because I'm running around at work or I'm with the kids and they're jumping around me, so I still want to be comfy, but cute loose dresses and a nice big cardigan over it.
Farley: Whatever's comfy so we can run around with the kids.
And Nicole, you just wrote a health and fitness book called "Strong is the New Sexy." You're in amazing shape now, but you also have two kids to take care of. How do you make time for your fitness routine?
Polizzi: It's really hard, especially if Jionni's not home. It's just me and Jionni watching the kids, so if he's out, I'm watching the kids, so we try to balance our time to make sure we get everything done together. If I'm not working, I usually go to the gym five times a week with my trainer, but if not and I'm stuck at home with the kids, I'll take them out for a walk, play outside, run around, just to get your heart rate going. But it's all about diet and eating healthy, so as long as you do that, you're good.
Jenni, congratulations on the wedding and the pregnancy. How did it feel to get married to Roger and have all your friends at the wedding?
Farley: It was awesome. It was very nerve-wracking because I had so many bridesmaids. I had to go on a plan to make sure that I wasn't drinking, so I had to bring a bunch of fake non-alcoholic drinks to the bridal suite with me just in case they were asking why I wasn't drinking or if I wanted a shot or champagne. I was prepared.
How was the reaction when you announced your pregnancy?
Farley: That was the best part of the wedding, by far. It was unbelievable. It couldn't have been more perfect. Our parents didn't know, either, so just to see the reaction and the tears was awesome.
Are you excited to have a boy?
Farley: Very. Extremely. They say there's nothing like a mother's son. I have my princess, so now that I have my little prince, I'll be done, I think. No more.
Why's that? How's your pregnancy?
Farley: I hate it. I hate every second of it. I love what it does -- I cannot wait to meet my son -- but the swelling, the vomiting, the grossness and getting big is not my cup of tea. I don't handle pregnancies well. There's nothing out of the norm, it's just s****y.
And when are you due?
Farley: Beginning of May. I'm happy that I won't be pregnant in the summer; that's a whole other ball game.
