Nickelodeon to livestream 30th anniversary "Double Dare" special at Comic-Con
Fans of "Double Dare" are in for a treat, as Nickelodeon is reviving the slime-happy game show for its 30th anniversary -- but there's a catch: It's only happening once.
The kids-centric network is bringing the game show to San Diego Comic-Con -- along with host Marc Summers -- for one night only, hosting a special live edition to commemorate the milestone. Summers will head up a new episode at the pop culture event on July 22, and those who can't make it to San Diego will be able to watch it live on Facebook.
The event will also be covered later the following week on Nickelodeon during a slew of programming dedicated to the game show and its spinoffs -- "Family Double Dare" and "Double Dare 2000."
"Thirty years later, people still stop me on the street every day and tell me playing 'Double Dare' is the one thing they wish they could have done growing up," Summers told Entertainment Weekly.
"Double Dare" premiered on Nickelodeon on Oct. 6, 1986 and ran until 1993, making it the network's longest-running game show with more than 500 episodes produced. The show featured young contestants competing in rounds of trivia and physical challenges famed for their grossness and absurdity.
