Nick Lachey and wife Vanessa expecting first child

(CBS News) Nick Lachey is going to be a dad.

His wife, TV host Vanessa Lachey (formerly Vanessa Minnillo), is expecting the couple's first child, he revealed Monday morning while co-hosting "Live! With Kelly."

"I've had a chance to do a lot of great things in my career and my life but this is the one thing that, more than any other, I look forward to," he said. "The fact that it's actually here, it's overwhelming."

According to People, the baby is due in late summer or early fall, and the dad-to-be said the couple does not yet know whether it will be a boy or a girl - but he wants to find out.

He told Kelly Ripa, "We definitely want to know. I can't take the knowledge that someone out there knows, but I don't know. It's like watching a sports game on TiVo."

Nick, 38, and Vanessa, 31, tied the knot in July.
