Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo get married

(CBS) Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo are now husband and wife.

The couple tied the knot on Friday in a surprise ceremony at a tropical island in front of 35 friends and family, People reports.

"For us, this is just a stepping stone to do what we ultimately want and that's to start a family together," Minnillo, 30, tells the magazine.

Guests at the ceremony were reportedly flown out to the wedding site as a surprise.

"Nobody knew where they were going," Minnillo says.

"Our wedding invitations were in the form of a plane ticket. We told them they were going away and the attire was 'island chic.'" Lachey, 37, adds. "It was all very vague."

According to Us magazine, the ceremony was held at the top of a cliff overlooking the ocean on Necker Island.

Minnillo reportedly walked down the aisle in a two-piece Monique Lhuillier gown, which featured an embellished lace corset and skirt made of silk faille.

The couple, who got engaged last November, had cameras around to document their nuptials for a TLC special called, "Nick & Vanessa's Dream Wedding," which will air on July 30.

It is the first marriage for Minnillo and the second for Lachey, who was previously married to Jessica Simpson.
