NFL unveils new Nike uniforms for all 32 teams
(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - Going for a slightly sleeker look, the NFL has unveiled its new uniforms designed by Nike.
The league and Nike showed off the new gear in grand style Tuesday with a gridiron-themed fashion show at a Brooklyn film studio. Uniforms for all 32 teams were on display, worn by players.
Commissioner Roger Goodell was on hand, along with New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz.
"I love them,'' Goodell said. "I love them first because it starts with the performance part of them. ... Talking to the players, they don't want to take them off. They love 'em."
The uniforms all are made with new technology that make them lighter, dryer and more comfortable. The reaction among players was mostly positive, based on an ESPN.com Twitter compilation.Nike is a new NFL partner, taking over uniform and gear design from Reebok.
The designs stayed pretty true to what NFL fans have come to expect but the Seattle Seahawks decided a major overhaul was in order.
The new Seahawks uniforms (pictured at left) featured a change to a deeper shade of dark blue, neon green highlights throughout and a third alternate uniform in a shade of gray.
Seattle was the one team to get a significant uniform change. Gone was the shade of blue that debuted when the Seahawks moved into their new stadium in 2002. The uniforms also incorporate graphics of Pacific Northwest coastal Indian artwork along the side of the uniform tops and pants and around the neckline.
The Seahawks logo is larger on the helmets and wraps around the back.
"Seattle is obviously very innovative," Todd Van Horn, Nike's Creative Director for Football, told CBSSports.com. "And because of our relationship with them, there's a comfort factor. When we showed them the materials and talked about the performance, they were obviously willing to be excited and embrace it from a performance standpoint. "They wanted an opportunity to extend their brand."
